Australia Day - Sydney Harbour - January 26
One for the diary this coming Friday (Oz time) Celebrations all over Australia of course, but it will be the day to try to wrest control of any of the Sydney Harbour cams. Festivies on the Harbour all day, including - Ferrython - race between 4 of our commuter ferries up the Harbour. This race has been conducted for over 30 years! Australia Day Parade - every kind of water vessel you can think of - tugs, yachts, barges, tour boats etc, all decorated - sail up the Harbour, around Clarke Island and back Awesome Forces - starting with a 21 gun salute, then aerial displays by the RAAF, Red Berets parachuting into the Harbour Australia Day Regatta - the 171st - apparently the world's oldest continuously conducted regatta FOR LIZ - Tall Ships Parade - always a wonderful sight to see them racing up the Harbour to the Bridge More info and timings here http://www.australiaday.com.au/whatson/wo_sydneyharbour.aspx And after all that???? Oh - guess what....more FIREWORKS

What will you be doing Robyn? We'll be having friends around for a bbq as we have done now for the past 3 or 4 years. I spent a couple of Aust days in Tamworth for the country music festival and had a ball. Now, if I can't get to Tamworth we have to friends around or else I get depressed about not being there :( Karen

Hi Karen, Will probably pack a picnic and try to find a patch of grass at Cremorne Point to watch some of the Harbour fun. Afternoon entertainment easily taken care of......there is a one-day cricket match between Oz and England that I must watch (sorry Stephen  ) Have a great day...your bbq with friends sounds fun :D

:D :D :D Both plans sound fun. Robyn, just hope that it isn't SOOOO HOT   I know on New Year's Eve, it wasn't just a question of wresting control of the harbor cams, but you couldn't even get ON them  :(

robyn- 01-21-2007

Fingers crossed on both counts Liz! Hopefully the weather won't be as hot as today...it was a scorcher  , and althought the cams will be popular, most Aussies at least will be 'out and about' during the day :D

......there is a one-day cricket match between Oz and England that I must watch (sorry Stephen  ) And the rest of us in England-------have a good day. Just looked up Itinnary for next year's cruise; we will be at sea, having just left Hobart. Just wonder if Celebrity will use it for a knees up?

And, something else for Australia Day - courtesy of Google Maps :D Wonder how I can get myself (or the infamous RED pashmina) on this :?: :?: http://www.smh.com.au/news/web/google-wants-to-put-you-on-the-map/2007/01/22/1169330820917.html

jackie- 01-23-2007

Well we could stalk you & Liz! Might just be too hot for the RED though.

robyn- 01-23-2007

Jackie...Liz won't quite be here by then (although she will only be a couple of weeks away ) ...it is this coming Friday - January 26. Trust me, I wouldn't be WEARING the RED pashmina...just waving it and hoping to be captured! :D You just never know

Ferry Race!

robyn- 01-25-2007

Is it possible 'The Roo' has had the day off from Pacific Princess, to become involved in the Surfboard race on the Harbour?

Carolyn Jane- 01-25-2007

Now, isn't that way cool! CJ

robyn- 01-26-2007

CJ...as proof we Aussies will float anything in the water.....a different race today - airmatresses shaped like thongs (feet thongs that is  ) :D :D

jackie- 01-26-2007

A fun day for all! Loved the pic of the ferry race with the Opera House in the background.

Great shot of the ferry race Robyn. Reminds me of 1999 when Norwegian Star had an Australian Day cruise and they used her as a marker bouy. That was a great cruise.3 nights, 1 day at sea,1 on the harbour for Australia Day and back to Darling Harbour for the fireworks. Now if P&O did that ,it would sell out overnight. Might be time to write a few letters ...me thinks!!!!!!
