Just an aside.. re the buildings in St Petersburgh above.
Isn't it funny how you remember little things about a place you visit.
One of the things that struck me in this city was the downpiping on the buildings.If you look at the photo you can see that the pipes carrying the water from the roof stop...just above...and spill out onto, the footpath.
All the buildings I saw were just like that.
Perhaps that why they wear big boots in Russia!

you can see the vehicles parked half way up the Mountain
at the base of the Cable Car Station.

Ref to Fall pipes about a foot off the ground:
We were told that it is because of the snows ; ie the weight of the snow does not fracture the fall pipe- but that is in the winter, must get pretty messy in Spring when the snow melts from the roof above.
Lots of cams in Capetown, wonder if we can see PP on any of them?
