Srinagar: Picture this – a beautifully done up houseboat on the Dal Lake, strains of Sufi music drifting in the air, a heady mix of traditional wazwan, saffron kehwa poured hot from the samavar and a hookah to keep company.
That's the la-*test*-('") effort by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department to woo tourists back to the valley.
"For a full course wazwan and a ride on the lake we charge Rs 400 to 500. We have special packages for families and groups and have kept the pricing open-ended," General Manager, Tourism, Sarmad Hafeez says.
While tourist inflow may have dwindled in the last few months because of several cases of militant attacks on tourists. The new strategy, a three-hour dream cruise on the Dal Lake, seems to be attracting a lot of tourists.
"It's very relaxing, it's wonderful. The view outside is beautiful and stunning. The government should go quietly along with this and start investing in such projects," a tourist, Peterson says.
Meanwhile, there are more such plans in the pipeline and the government hopes the valley will become a tourists' paradise once again.
