I heard it was being renovated, think it is the North where we don't often go. I have been on 2 Cable Cars. Try the following web site or PM Aurora. http://www.madeira-web.com/

And this must have been the type of aircraft that was used then.

We first went to Madeira in 1979 when the runway was as you have shown Manuela. I thought we were going into the sea, how that plane stopped I just don't know. I refused to go back.- until we called on a cruise ship in 2001. Since then we have been regulars, either by cruise ship or staying in an exchange timeshare.

The book "Unforgettable Islands to Escape to Before you Die", a renowned book published by BBC Books which has been translated into 20 different languages, hails Madeira as being an unforgettable region. Together with other destinations as exotic as the Norwegian island of Svalbard, the Palawan Islands in the Philippines, French Polynesia, Vanuatu, Bali, Madagascar and Fiji, among a host of others, Madeira appears in great prominence within this book, written by photographers Steve Davey and Marc Schossman, both specialists in the art of travel, who have spanned the globe in search of unusual landscapes, faces and festivals. http://www.madeiraturismo.com:80/pls/madeira/wsmwdet0.detalhe_conteudo?p_cot_id=978&p_lingua=EN
