Homecoming s.s. Rotterdam delayed . . . again !
Today, mr. Hans Elemans, manager of De Rotterdam BV, has announced that the homecoming of the s.s. Rotterdam is delayed again.
He expects that the ship will now arrive in Rotterdam before the summer of 2008 (halfway the month of May).
After arrival it will take some months before the ship can be open to the
public.
The delay is caused by the longer time than expected to remove the asbestos.

What a shame  , but I am not surprised. From your pictures, Willem, they have SO much more to do :!:
I only hope that the ship will arrive in Rotterdam before 16 May or after 1 June.
On 16th May my daughter is going to marry.
17th and 18th is a steam event in Dordrecht.
19th will be packing our suitcases.
20th off to the Costa Marina for our Baltic cruise of which we return on 31st May.
We will keep our fingers crossed for you!
You have a busy Spring coming :D :D
Again another delay :( :(
It is expected that the ship will arrive in Rotterdam in August.
The Association De Lijn (previous HAL employees) had scheduled to celebrate her 20th anniversary on 2 September on board of the s.s. Rotterdam. The festivities are now postponed till at least 21 September.
When Woonbron (owner of the ship) bought the ship in June 2005, they budgetted the renovation at 24 million euros.
As of today they are 700 % over budget as they have invested between 140 and 200 million euros.
I still hope the ship will return to Rotterdam before April 2009, as Ank and I intend to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary on the ship together with our daughter Ilja and son in law Arjan.
      Delay and more delay
Well, she has GOT TO BE there before next APRIL :!: :!: :!:
Another delay :( Hopefully she will be there in August! She just has to be there for your anniversary celebration in April, Willem! :D
