Regatta approaching Schacht-Audorf. This is the bridge before the basin: The cargo vessel ahead of her: The little ferry scurries across ahead of her:

Bridge ahead! Looks like there might be a flea market again today:

Almost at the corner for the Neubbel cam: Could somebody move that sun? That's all folks! CJ

There was a thread on CC on the ports of call section for Northern Europe and baltics section: A woman from Australia was confused because she is going to be on NCL Jewel and thought her itinerary originally included Kiel Canal, but does not see it now. I posted that it was a no go, and posted pics of NCL Dream and her flipped funnel in the canal, going under the bridge. Another person came on and posted this picture: and thanked me for posting my pictures, as she had been on that very cruise! She said it is sort of an 'All hands on deck' spectacle when they ceremonially flip the funnel and mast. CJ

I am srue that is quite a sight. I wonder if there is a video anywhere on youtube?

Lancashirelad- 07-13-2008

She said it is sort of an 'All hands on deck' spectacle when they ceremonially flip the funnel and mast. CJ Its all hands on deck all right...... with a broom ..... to sweep up all the soot. (They actually rope the adjacent area off so it doesnt go all over your clothes.)

Yes there is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Eo8hvcfCRA&feature=related What a neat video clip Stephen. It captures the excitement of the canal transit. It refreshed my memory on the crowds that gather to watch.

Last year, there was another ship that flipped it's funnel...half to each side. It also lowered the mast/antenna to the port side. but I can't find it in any of my pics on photobucket, and I couldn't locate it going through the Port Cam of the day...It's driving me crazy! CJ

Finally found the other flipper: The World. But she doesn't have her mast hanging off the side...CJ

Kiwi Kruzer- 07-13-2008

Thank 's for that CJ. I did not know World had to flip as well. I must have missed it last time it.

I checked Canal Cup cam AIS and discovererd Europa was about the enter the locks at Brunsbeuttel. A check of the UCA cams showed that the Kiel cams were frozen in time, but this appears to be her bow waiting to enter: And she gets a damp farewell.
