Stephen, does this count as a training cruise for you and Jean? And Vince? CJ Yes  it will get us used to being on a ship ready for QE2 in June :)

There are some interesting facts about the canal here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_Ship_Canal

Thanks Stephen, I used to queue for hours to get over Barton Bridge when it was being widened and I travelled to Urmston to work and if it was too bad I sometimes used the swing bridge near Eccles to get across :) I have also been on the Royal Iris many years ago on a trip along the Mersey :D

Liz- 02-17-2008

:D :D Maybe we will have Royal Iris, too :D I see her on AIS on the Mersey a lot. Love the picture of the narrow boat on the Bridgewater Canal.....crossing over :D

Very interesting...For those of us who are graphically oriented...Is there a map of this somewhere, showing all the merges? (Well, I suppose I could go to Google Earth...) CJ

For anyone not joining us, you can follow the "cruise" here http://www.shipais.com/index.php?map=MSC CJ, this site brings up a map and is broken down into sections. Manchester is on the right, Liverpool on the left. So we will be going from right to left . :)

Tickets received this morning, i am very impressed  They are in a cute little wallet with a picture of the ferry on the canl on it, and when you pull out the tickets the ferry moves along the canal!  Also brochures of what's on in Liverpool and Salford and maps etc, very well thought out! Stephen do you know if there is the 2.5 hour free in Liverpool before the bus goes back referred to in the brochure on this trip ?

Liz- 02-18-2008

Sounds like it is all working to a T :D :D When I was looking at the Liverpool AIS, noticed that Black Prince is there, today

She's off on a 13 night cruise to the Canaries etc., one of a series of cruises based in Liverpool. Sadly they have to leave from scruffy Langton dock rather than the new cruise landing stage, as this has no facilities for luggage, customs etc. http://www.fredolsencruises.com/plan-cruise/cruise-details/bp803 Albert.

Liz- 02-18-2008

:D :D The Fred Olsen site has a neat ship locator on it, too :D

Jo, no this trip does not give us any time in Liverpool. :(
