It appears to be exhaust from a poorly tuned diesel engine driving the bow-thruster.

What a lovely, happy video :D Yes, that black smoke did not look good  , but evidently, nothing serious.....though a tune-up should be on her schedule!

Great videos, Galaxy! Smoke is a little scary on Marco Polo...but I hope is nothing serious. She is a beautiful ship!

Thanks for the videos Galexy, they are great. I loved the Marco Polo one, but I agree the smoke is a bit worrying. As for the the second vidoe    There were times it looked like she was just gong to keep rolling until she went over.

Makes the Bay of Biscay look like a millpond!

redqueen- 12-23-2006

Much too scary for me. I couldn't tell if the ship was making any forward movement. Don't remember the event, but have to wonder how did they get caught in such a storm.

c-to-sea- 12-23-2006

This happened soon after her sister ship, Explorer, was battered in the Pacific ( see forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=20416#20416" target="_blank">http://cruise.11.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=20416#20416 ) Quite a coincidence that both experienced such rough seas so near in time but half a world apart. Both ships were soon back in service and, so far, have not had any further bad experiences. At one time, there was a video clip taken inside Explorer after the damage occured and while she was powerless in heavy seas.

Yes, I remember the clip from Explorer......ship was full of Semester at Sea students......they were all fine, but lots of frantic parents
