That is the saddest little donkey I have ever seen :( Abject defeat ! Erdrutschartige Niederlage ! To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go.

He was one among many others. The heroes of the santorini donkey trail ! But Dani, you are right, he looked like the saddest of all. Tried to ask him, but conversation failed completely, he spoke Greek, and didn“t accept me as a relative from Bavaria.

Yes, as far as I know, Kansas is a an agrarian oriented jewel ! http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m28/dneilon/Forum%20pictures/pole-dancer.jpg .

Dear Wolfie, Yes, Kansas is full of tree huggers. I am one. We have vast expanses of land upon which wheat, corn, sunflowers, buffalo grass grow. I would see much of it stay that way, plant trees and wind farms for the environment. Thoreau was an Agrarian Thinker : "A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone. " "I once had a sparrow alight upon my shoulder for a moment, while I was hoeing in a village garden, and I felt that I was more distinguished by that circumstance that I should have been by any epaulet I could have worn." ************************************** Can be summed up in the phrase "Less is more " in life. ****************************************** Also Ralph Waldo Emerson "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. " *********************************** So dear Friend, in keeping with the Kansas Agrarian thinking, I will bring but the clothes on my back next week. Then let you buy me everything I need !    Touche and Checkmate !

Back to the mules or locomotives. More details are on the pancanal.com site. If you have a look at the sitemap you find a lot of information. http://www.pancanal.com/eng/projects/locomotive.html astonishing the prize, nearly 2 million $ for one unit

robyn- 11-24-2006

Thanks Wolfgang - nearly $2 million  , and some of the larger ships require up to 8 mules. That maybe explains why ships have to pay so much to go through the Canal?
