QE2 May 5-May 21
   Despite a couple of problems., YES, I had a great time :!: :!: :!: Chapter 1 As usual, I got to the airport, way too early. Checked in with Virgin Atlantic in plenty of time. NO weighing of carry-ons. Asked them about cigarette lighters. “OH, NO”, I was told. Newark Airport Security had NO PROBLEM with cigarette lighters. Just wish I had brought a few more! Flight over was uncomfortable, of course, but uneventful. Folks sitting behind me were heading for NCL Jewel to the Baltic, leaving from Dover. Found my Cunard “Meet ‘n Greet” with no trouble at Heathrow. Had some time before the van left, so got some British money and located the Left Luggage and the Dot to Dot London transport, for when I came back. Thank Goodness, that Heathrow has free luggage carts. I think it is outrageous, that Newark charges $3 for one. I can’t imagine what people do, who arrive with no American money. I don’t remember any other airport charging for them Delightful young couple from Virginia on my van. Don’t remember their names, but he was the one who was quarantined for suspected Noro Had a fun trip down to Soton, chatty van driver who was describing the sights, as we went. Embarkation was a breeze. Yes, I did have a priority, but it didn’t seem like it took anyone very long. Was in my cabin very quickly. OK, does anyone know how to turn off the effects and make the slideshow run only once? Cabin was certainly large enough, with HUGE amounts of storage, far more than I needed. Just wished one could open the porthole, though. One of the portholes had been blocked off to make way for a vanity mirror The cabin door used a REAL KEY. Amazing  . Yes, of course there was a room card, too, to show for purchases. And you opened a closed the safe, using a credit card, but NOT your room card. This worked on the first try, about half the time. Of course, I was pretty jet lagged by this time. Went to muster… up flights to the Golden Lion. And then it was time for sail-away. Don’t remember why, but didn’t take camera to sail-away. But, I was on deck, waving like mad!!! I had already found the Queen’s Grill and had enquired about my table from Andrew, the Maitre d’. He promised to try to do something. Yeah, RIGHT. However, I did notice that so MANY couples had opted for tables for 2. What fun is that???? Both Win & I had requested also, a smoking table. Andrew informed me, that I was the only person in the dining room who had so requested. What, was Win lying about this??? No, I was not too happy with Andrew. A couple of days later, I went to the Purser’s Office and requested help with this…..a change in dining room, if not a change of table. I was promised that Jeff Morgan, the Food & Beverage Manager would get back to me. NEVER HAPPENED. By this time, changing tables or dining rooms would have been just unbelievably rude. Oh well, our table did tend to cause quite a bit of comic relief with others in the Queens Grill Lounge, before and after dinner  . Second disappointment of the day was the no shows for the CC roll call. I was early in the Chartroom and stayed for quite a while. But Gavin and Shirley never showed up :?: :?: :?:

A nice cabin, much bigger than the MI's I am used to  I look forward to chapter 2

Finally figured out how to get rid of the swoop effect from Photobucket. I like this much better :D Yes, the cabin was very large :D

Chapter 2 May 6. Our first sea day, sea in the Bay was amazingly calm. As the day progressed, weather was warm enough for deck-sitting, with a sweater. I discovered the Funnel Bar, where I usually hung out in good weather. Spent mostly a lazy time on Deck that morning, and then did the Cunard Heritage thingo with Thomas and tea in the Queen’s Room Stephen, can’t believe that you haven’t done the Heritage Tour  . It is a MUST :!: :!:  BUt you might know more than Thomas  It tended to be quite chilly early almost every morning, but warmed up quickly during the day. More times than not, I ended up dragging around more layers than I needed, on shore. My other favorite places were the Chart Room in the evening, and sometimes the Golden Lion for a pub lunch. Golden Lion had a great jazz group performing there at lunchtime May 7 Lisbon, Was up very early for the Sail-In. Lovely coming up the river These are just my still pictures. I have lots more on the other camera

Lancashirelad- 06-10-2008

Stephen, can’t believe that you haven’t done the Heritage Tour  . It is a MUST :!: :!:  BUt you might know more than Thomas  I really must do it in June or October. No one knows more than Thomas  The sail into Lisbon is wonderful, the first time I arrived it was dark and the bridge had all it's lights on. But boy the cars make a one hell of a noise as they cross.

Just catching up! I am amazed how few people were in the square in Lisbon!

redqueen- 06-10-2008

Videos are very nice. :D

Liz- 06-10-2008

Yes, there were not many people in the Square, but it was chilly and rain was threatening and ARRIVED :!: :!: Thanks, Lena  The real videos of the Sail-in follow Lord, it takes FOREVER to upload the videos to Photobucket  I must join YouTube, and see what happens there :?: :?: The "bridge song" is amazing. WAY out in the harbour, you can hear the wind, but with overtones of "song" Then, I went to the stern, behind the Funnel Bar to watch the funnel go under the bridge :D The bridge song was at HIGH VOLUME, then  More videos to come from afternoon walk-about

Trish&Ed- 06-11-2008

Very interesting Liz. Look forward to the rest of the story.

tigersxm- 06-11-2008

Cabin looks wonderful! Love the pictures and videos. Looking forward to more. I just love the sail in to Lisbon. :D

Liz- 06-11-2008

Weather cleared up nicely in the afternoon, and went to the newly-developed waterfront area. Took umbrella along, JUST IN CASE. This is wall-to-wall trendy restaurants  Had a beer in the Irish Pub :D Video also includes the Sail-away. YouTube not all that speedy on the uploads :?: but neither Photobucket nor Webshots would take it. Not too long, but too big :?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtnBvuF0C4A Thus ends Lisbon :)

redqueen- 06-11-2008

Loving your review. :D Lisbon is my second favorite place after Funchal. A lot of development along the waterfront. :D
