Totally spooky  :D :!: :!: NOW, should they be on, this time......get all their particulars :!: :D  Ships that pass in the night  Thank Goodness that I have all addresses for Andrea and Len :D I did give Win the address for this site, but just on an "easy to lose" slip of paper :?:  When next you run into her, Stephen. Please say "hi" :D

Carolyn Jane- 06-23-2008

Which raises the question: Is it better to know everyone, or have everyone know you? CJ

Lancashirelad- 06-23-2008

I will look out for them on this trip and the next and try to get their details for you Liz. Next time I see Win I will tell her you say hi and remind her of our address  There is someone on this cruise on CC who was on the USA/Canada cruise in 2006 who remembers me. I was not even a CC member then so I don't know what I did to stick in his mind.

Wednesday, May 21 The shuttle ride to Heathrow went quickly. Dropped off my big bags and went to the Dot to Dot area. I was in London much earlier than I expected to be. It all worked perfectly. I was totally pleased with the St Giles Hotel. Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, an ashtray in my room :D and right in the center of things. Hadn’t really planned to do much in the way of sightseeing that day, but, since I was there so early, I explored a bit of Oxford Street and Charing Cross Road. On Thursday, I decided to do the “Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus”. Bought the ticket at the Hotel. (What they DIDN”T explain there :whoops: , is that there are all kinds of different routes for this…..they all intersect,….. but you have ask, ask, ask, to be sure you are going where you WANT to go) I could pick up one of the routes from in front of the British Museum, where I wanted to start my day, anyway. This was just a quick walk from the Hotel. My mission at the British Museum was to find Artemidorus :!: ,…….and hereby hangs a tale, a long one, I’m afraid. When I was in Egypt in March of 1990, I had palled up with one of the Smithsonian Tour Lecturers and had my own private tour of the Egyptian Museum with him. He was especially interested in the painted coffin portraits from the Fayum. These are beautifully and realistically painted caskets from the Roman period In Look Homeward Angel, Thomas Wolfe’s character, Eugene, says, on the death of his brother, Ben, “Artemidorus farewell”. Thomas Wolfe was at the British Museum prior to writing the book, saw and remembered this, and put it in the novel. When Joe Schork, the lecturer, was there, he made the connection and wrote a paper on it. I found Artemidorus right away   Then caught the bus right in front of the Museum and sat in traffic for a looooong time enroute to the route that I wanted to take. Finally got there. Then the new bus us took us past Hyde Park and on to Buckingham Palace, where I made my only “hop-off”…..wandered in front of the Palace, and then took a tour of the Mews (stables)…not many horses :?: , but gorgeous coaches. Got back on the bus, which then went all over London, finally ending up in Piccadilly Circus. Saw Silver Wind anchored in the Thames Slideshow Bus Tour Video. While in the Mews, I filmed at bit of the Coronation procession from the film they run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X3m3IZqtbo Back to the hotel and did a Big Mac Meal  in my room for supper, then off to see the Mousetrap. Great fun, and a splendid production (they’ve had 54 years to “get it right” :!: :D ). Not much question as to “who dunnit”, though  Friday morning, - off to Liverpool. Loved the train ride, North. First class was definitely the “way to go”, despite the expense  Elegant breakfast of salmon, etc :D Train ride video http://travel.webshots.com/video/3036321940056925461UQjVdJ Now this would have been a “different” hostess present  Train was on time, and Jo & Albert were there to greet me at Lyme Street Station What a GREAT TIME THEY showed me      First we went to the Panoramic Restaurant on the 34th Floor of the Betham West Tower. It is quite new and revolves. Fabulous food and a view to die for Then…..off for a DUKW ride. First it was a DUKW out of water, for a street tour, and then, DUKW in water. This was GREAT FUN!!!!! :D Slideshow DUKW in water video http://travel.webshots.com/video/3079310420056925461XHZWZa Then back to my new "home-away-from-home", where Jo whipped up a great dinner served on their beautiful patio :!: :!: :D

Liz, A few of your don't knows: 1. Entrance to the Mall? 2. Statue of a young Queen Victoria. Unfortunatly I don't know the classical building behind her.

What great memories this all brings back Liz!!

Liz- 06-25-2008

YES :!: :!: :!:    Have re-lived them all, while putting it together   Hopefully, will have Errdig, Chester, and the ship canal cruise, done by tomorrow :!:

Liz- 06-26-2008

Saturday, and we were off to Erddig (pronounced Erthig). This is a beautiful Manor House in Wales and well worth checking out the wikipedia link!! Fascinating! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erddig It has magnificent grounds and gardens, with the best espaliered shrubs that I have ever seen. The family was noted for their amazingly close relationship with their servants, unheard for that time Their restaurant is pretty good too. Note the scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam :dream: Slideshow Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeG3nIHMZ8s From there, we went into Chester, explored the beautiful Cathedral, where there was an Service in progress , and walked their unique double-tiered shopping streets. I had never seen any like that, before. After walking the town, we went to a lovely park by the Rive Dee, and THEN to a fabulous restaurant, the Red House, also right on the river, with a superb view and wonderful food Slide Show Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKTkAb7gBQw I’ll finish, tomorrow, with the Manchester Canal Cruise :D :D Thought I'd get the whole thing done, today, but it is not going to happen

Joanne48- 06-26-2008

What good photos and videos that little camera of yours takes Liz 8) And an excellent report too, it has been like a Dickens story serialised in the newspaper!!

Liz- 06-26-2008

GLAD you are enjoying   SO MUCH FUN, putting it together   Working on the Canal Cruise portion, NOW :!: :D The video is way too long for YouTube, so having to split it up. Part 2 is now uploading as I write this. It TAKES forever  Then, have to re-size the Pictures and put on Photobucket.....Takes forever to upload there, if I don't resize them, first. Don't think it will be today :?:

tigersxm- 06-27-2008

This has been so much fun! I am enjoying your "chapter by chapter" review Liz! I look forward to it each day. Thanks! :D

Liz- 06-27-2008

THE FINAL CHAPTER….and, yes, I AM glad to have this finished :drink: Started my day, as usual, with coffee on their lovely patio. YES, those are lavender roses :D :D :D http://travel.webshots.com/video/3052725340056925461KeQYDD The, off to Manchester by taxi AND, the INVINCIBLE MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL CRUISE SUCH a GREAT TIME :!: :!: :!:   The videos are a lot better than my pictures, but what the heck, it is pretty short Slideshow Video 1 Some nice shots of the “Canal over the Canal” on this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNuBRmN0o6k Video 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2a5C0VLH2Q Video 3 As we left the Snow Drop, the bells of Our Lady & St. Nicholas (the Parish Church of Liverpool) were ringing to greet us. This video beat Webshot’s 5 minute video limit by 1 second. And it is SO much faster to upload to than is YouTube http://travel.webshots.com/video/3085908760056925461zBqCzO The rest of the group had started in Manchester and took the bus back there and had dinner together. That would have been lovely :D :D , but, since we started from the Liverpool side,…..not terribly practical Got a taxi back home and discussed going back to Liverpool for dinner. But, decided against it, as tomorrow would be another early day. So we went to a nice local restaurant for dinner. As we went, we were very near this cam. (I think it was this cam :?:  ) http://www.wirralcam.org/westkirby.shtml So, next morning, time to go home   . Got to Manchester Airport in plenty of time, fought my way between terminals at Heathrow and got home safe, but tired. Yes, thank goodness, my driver had parked and was inside waiting for me at Newark :D
