There is a "Romance " about sailing ships like no other. These ships are beautiful, what a great day for the town. To think that what we now see as unusual, was once the normal look on the oceans. But I am sure my ancestors were not always impressed with their voyages in those days. Not like our creature comforts today.

Goran Petersson who has the Stockholm AIS site has GOT to be the same person as the President of the International Sailing Federation :D He has the ships participating in the "Around Gotland" Race (Sweden's premier sailing race) showing up on his AIS site :D :D

Next year Liverpool is European Capital of Culture (a title which bemuses us Mancunians...Manchester and Liverpool being very old rivals!) As part of this the Tall ships race will be starting from Liverpool next year. "TALL SHIPS RACE 2008 More than one million people are expected in July 2008 when Liverpool will be the host port for the start of the spectacular Tall Ships' Race with historic schooners and square riggers sailing to Norway before making their way to the Netherlands. The race will bring around 100 Tall Ships to the River Mersey with brigs, brigantines, ketches, yawls, cutters and sloops berthed in the city's historic docks for four days before the race starts." We were away when they were here last in 2005 so will watch out for a date for next year.
