T/V Leonardo da Vinci
I have these pics on another unrelated thread but I thought I would post them again here where they rightly belong. Built in 1958, for the Italian Line as a replacement to the Andrea Doria. She mysteriously burned and sank in Livorno 1980, after being insured for more that her scrap value. My favorite ship of all time. Sailed EB & WB NY-Genoa/Genoa-NY 1964.

Do you think that years from now people will be viewing the ships of the last five years with such reverence ? Seems hard to imagine but I suppose as we get farther away from the traditinal ship silhoutte that will happen. Change is good ? Not always. Change the mechanics but leave the basic classic lines alone. Some of us still listen to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart :D I know I have posted this on the old board I believe but I do so love this poem. You can appreciate classic. Sea Fever I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by, And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking, And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking. I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over. John Masefield
