On Friday 19 January 2007, the Infocenter of De Rotterdam was opened. You can find this Infocenter at Brede Hilledijk 99 in Rotterdam (Katendrecht), just a few hundreds meters west of Metro-station Rijnhaven. The photo-exhibition which was on display early 2006 in The Netherlands Photo Museum is now the central part of the Infocenter. You can also visit the model of the refurbished Cabin nr. 212 as it will be in the future. The Infocenter is opened on Wednesday through Friday from 01.00 pm till 05.00 pm. Saturday and Sunday from 11.00 am till 05.00 pm. Photos provided by and copyright © of Mrs. Henny Westenburger - van Seeventer can be seen on my website.

Just found this blurb on Maritime Matters. CJ February 24: The municipal calendar for the City of Rotterdam, Holland has set a date of Friday September, 14 2007 for the return of the preserved ocean liner SS ROTTERDAM. The 1959-built former Holland America Line flagship is under going conversion to hotel, conference center and museum ship to be permanently moored in her former homeport of Rotterdam. She is pictured in a photo by Cai Ronnauon on the Ship news Photos page at Hanoverkai in Wilhelmshaven, Germany where Turbo-Technik Repairyard are completing the work.

Cai is my correspondent in Wilhelmshaven. If there is important news, he will send it to me :D :D He sent me the photo of the s.s. Rotterdam by night and gave permission to send it to Maritime Matters. Meanwhile I found the date of 14 September on Rotterdam's Events Calendar. The day after I sent that worldwide to maritime forums, TV Rijnmond (TV station in the region Rotterdam) did have an interview with mr. Elemans, manager of De Rotterdam BV, who declared it might be possible they cannot get that date. However, they do have a contract for a congres on board early November. We have to wait and see how things are going to be. The ETD in Wilhelmshaven is 1 May 2007, but, listening to mr. Elemans, that could be later.

I hope she is in Rotterdam by December when I am there on QE2. :) Are you kidding ? ? I will be in Rotterdam on that day to meet some American friends who are on Queen Victoria.

Lancashirelad- 03-02-2007

:) Not kidding, I will be in Rotterdam on QE2 to welcome Queen Victoria :). Jean (my mum) and Alanm will also be on QE2 as well.

:) Not kidding, I will be in Rotterdam on QE2 to welcome Queen Victoria :). Jean (my mum) and Alanm will also be on QE2 as well. I am afraid she will not be in Rotterdam in December. Last week, the owners announced that the homecoming will be delayed by at least 3 months. It seems that the ship will be very popular for congresses, so all crew cabins in the foreship will be removed and more public rooms (like skyboxes in footballstadiums) will be built. Plans for that have to be designed and the cost has to be calculated. Within a few weeks, they can announce when the ship will be in open for the public, however, they will still not tell when the ship comes home. We just have to wait.

ss Rotterdam open in 2008
De Rotterdam BV (shipowners) have made public that the s.s. Rotterdam will be open to the public as of 31 March 2008. Mr. Elemans (manager) expects that the ship will be towed to Rotterdam between half December and half January. The remaining period will be needed to put the ship into operation.
